Why write a story about being a Doula?

Welcome to the new Home page of A Doula’s Journey. A fictional story following one woman’s journey to becoming a Doula: intertwining personal, professional and spiritual.

This is more than just a book, more than just a fictional story. It speaks for many of us who are working within the childbirth profession. It hears our cry that there is so much more to being a Doula than finding comfort measures during labour and birth. Being a Doula is a calling, it permeates our lives, becomes what we breath and dream. By being Doulas to others we are also birthing ourselves. We are called to heal our own wounds, to explore our own birth and how we were recieved by the world and our family. Why else have we been called to work within on of the most demanding professions in the world, one than transcends cultures and languages? One that will require every drop of your attention and concentration as you care for and assist to empower other women to find her own power within.

One can skim over the healing process or one can go deep. One can keep a record of the inner journey or just names and dates of births attended. One can attune oneself to the deeper mysteries of life or just take everything at face value. One can heed the messages of dreams or just brush them off in the light of day. One can pay attention to coincidences and syncronicity or just keep to the calendar of events. It is always a choice, it is a daily choice. How  do you choose to life your life?

Every day, every hour, every moment is a choice. and we have the freedom to choose.
